The Fit for Life and 5-A-Day badge websites for Boy Scouts were designed as part of an 8-week Web-based program for the Children's Nutrition Research Center at the Baylor College of Medicine. Each week, individuals in Boy Scout troops completed online activities as part of research studies in physical fitness and nutrition. The site incorporated weekly 20-minute personal contacts at troop meetings and regular 15 to 20-minute, Web-based, interactive, multimedia sessions. Interactive content included comic book soap opera story lines featuring Boy Scouts from several ethnic groups, computerized problem solving, goal setting, skill building, and learning activities. An administrative back-end tool allowed researchers to access data results and update program content.
